Gwalior Fort
Perched high above the city, so breathtaking is the 8th-century Gwalior Fort, Emperor Babur is said to have called it the ‘pearl amongst the fortresses of Hind’. Considered invincible, it has witnessed many a battle and jauhar. Make your way up the eastern entrance for exceptional views.

Man Mandir Palace
A splendid royal palace, the Man Mandir Palace in the Gwalior Fort was built by the Tomar king, Raja Man Singh. The most striking element here are its captivating tiles and friezes of yellow ducks and mosaics of elephants, tigers and crocodiles in vivid shades of blue, yellow and green.

Jai Vilas Palace and the Scindia Museum
The fascinating Scindia Museum occupies thirty-five rooms of the Italian-styled Jai Vilas Palace. The ornate interiors house a collection of artefacts like cut glass furniture, a Persian carpet with portraits of world leaders, and a model silver train that carted decanters and cigars around the table.

The 8th-century Teli ka Mandir is the oldest monument in Gwalior Fort, and stands a hundred feet tall. Spend some time exploring this phenomenal Rajput temple, which showcases an exquisite blend of the Dravidian and Nagara architectural styles.

Raja Man Singh built Gujari Mahal as a symbol of his love for Mrignayani, his beloved rani. It is now the site of the State Archaeological Museum, and houses many a rare exhibit. The highlight of any visit is the renowned Salabhanjika, a superb sculpture often compared to the Venus de Milo.
