Taj Taj Mahal, Lucknow

Taj Mahal, Lucknow

Stately. Elegant. Opulent. Taj Mahal Lucknow inspires a romance with a coquette called Lucknow.

If Delhi is the city of Djinns, then Lucknow is the city of soul. The nawabs still haunt it, as do the British, with their fine taste for delicate craftsmanship, love for beauty, music, the arts and cuisine.

In fact, if they were around they would give Taj Mahal Lucknow, a round of applause. Because this is where regal décor, food that is lovingly coaxed on plates, a revival of fine art and curated one-of-a-kind experiences come together.

A museum of monuments, this city, a rather overlooked destination by the ordinary itinerary, deserves a mention. Indeed, there’s nothing ordinary about this place. Every passing culture has left an indelible mark on the land, leaving behind an extraordinary blend of influences that’s almost fable-like. And all of this tradition is captured, waiting to be experienced, at the Taj Mahal Lucknow.

Begin your days at our hotel welcoming the warmth of the sun and the tranquil pool or garden views from your room. Take time off to sample the smorgasbord of culinary delights, with choices that travel on from sunrises to sunsets. And end them by getting out of a wet swimsuit and into a dry martini.

Go sightseeing, a must for history buffs. The siege of Lucknow’s Residency building was one of the sparks for the great Indian War of Independence in 1857. Lucknow's grandest structure, the Bada Imambara, is also an intriguing experience with its mysterious passageways, secret tunnels and labrynth maze.

Souvenirs can be exquisitely crafted chikan kurtas for both men, women and children or attars from the local bazaar.

And your most unforgettable one is your time here, at our hotel, which starts to delight and grow on you, making you amenable to a second visit. At the Taj Mahal Lucknow, time is always on your side. What more could you want, in a city so enduring?

Comfortable stay with top class service
This was a leisure stay for me and it was very comfortable. I was well looked after by the hotel staff and familiar faces greeted me back to the hotel. I never tire of Taj and the way it makes me feel at home. The expansive property is a treat as compared to other hotels in the city and now that the hotel is upgraded from Vivanta to Taj Mahal, the level of amenities and service matched with the metro Taj Mahals. The check in experience was delightful and quick. Rupali and Tusshar at the front desk got the job done with smiles. My requirement for a king sized bed in the room was quickly accommodated and thankfully they were able to give a choice from a couple of rooms. In my experience if the initial welcome at the reception goes smoothly, it kind of sets the wheels rolling for a similar feeling throughout the stay. You end up going to your room with your luggage, pleasantly and the 'feel good' factor kicks in. You reciprocate the smiles, someone is happy that you are there and this rubs off, taking the tired and fatigue out of you. At the Sahib Cafe, the hostess Arpita is always gracious. Arun and Jaskiran go to any length to make sure that you are well taken care of. Morning or evening, this trio remembers your favourite orders, likes and dislikes and before you can ask, the order might be placed for your meal. There might be hundreds of guests Jaskiran might be meeting and greeting, but when he knows your choice of meal, it makes you feel special. The thought going into memorising a guest's favourite dish, does force one to favour Taj every time. Where else in the world, would you be made to feel significantly so important. Sharad, one of Sahib Cafe staff stands prominently in my stay this time. Amenable, friendly and warm. He is truly a hotelier's asset at the Taj. It is a marvel how this person can multitask several tables changing grumpy morning faces of guests into bright smiles. The room I stayed in was pleasant and it was nice to see the bathroom toiletries changed from Vivanta to Mahal standard. The earlier 'sugar soap' was now 'neem'. The bathroom slippers are my weakness and the housekeeping staff was kind enough to service this indulgence of mine. This review would not be complete without mention of Padam Singh at the main entry door to the hotel. Usually, the valets remain in the backstage, but not this fellow. Crisp salutes, the vehicle promptly taken and retrieved are his virtues. My special thanks to him. Finally, I would like to say that the Taj at Lucknow has seen vast changes under its current general manager Mr. Vikas Yadav. The property has literally bloomed under his aegis. One can sense how the hotel has flourished and the staff is happy. His charming personality exudes warmth and interaction with him is pleasurable.Thank you Mr. Yadav for making my visits an event to look forward to. I look forward to several more stays at Taj Lucknow and am eager to visit again.
