Once the private hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur, the gorgeous Ranthambore National Park is a proud member of the Project Tiger programme. A stone’s throw from the gateway town of Sawai Madhopur, this park has much more than the majestic tiger to spot.

Ranthambore National Park
The rocky Aravallis and gently-sloping Vindhyas meet at the thick, rugged jungle scrub and stony ridges of Ranthambore National Park. This picturesque forest is packed with hunting pavilions, timeworn chattris and forgotten temples and crocodile-filled lakes, watched over by the Ranthambhore Fort.

Perched atop a hill, the enthralling ruins of the once-impregnable 10th-century Ranthambore Fort appear to grow out of a rock. Walk through the enormous gateways across the expansive battlements and and gaze at the peerless views of the national park from Badal Mahal within the fort’s boundaries.

Ranthambore’s lakes
Ranthambore is a paradise for bird-watchers, and hosts more than two hundred and fifty migratory and resident species like the king vulture, crested serpent eagle and rufous treepie. The three lakes here, including Padam Talao, Milak Talao and Raj Talao, are the best places at which to spot these beauties.
Activities To Do

Have a four-wheeled adventure
Head into Ranthambhore National Park on an exciting early morning or afternoon jeep safari. Look for shy sloth bears, curious sambar deer poking their heads out of freshwater bodies, herds of large-eyed chital, leopards sneaking about the ramparts of Ranthambhore Fort and with some luck, maybe even the majestic tigers.

Walk into the wild
Follow the well-trodden nature trail along the fringes of Ranthambore’s verdant forest for a fresh perspective. The journey though the quiet Shiv Mandir and under stands of the flame of the forest trees, which turn a vivid red in the summer the sight is spectacular. In your quest for smaller wildlife you might even meet a nilgai!

Make a spiritual connection
Attain blessings at one of the five daily aartis held at the Trinetra Ganesh Temple in Ranthambore Fort, considered to be the holiest and oldest-known Ganesh temple in Rajasthan. The sanctum houses an idol of the three-eyed avatar of Lord Ganesha, accompanied by his parents, Shiva and Parvati.
