With tea plantations spread across misty mountains, this little gem in South India is relatively unexplored and indeed that is what makes it so charming! Tucked away in the Nilgiri or the blue mountain range, this hill station is dotted with Colonial architecture and is great for exploring on foot.
About Coonoor

Sight Seeing

Dolphin’s Nose
This curiously-named viewpoint about 10km from Coonoor town is popular with locals and tourists alike. On a good day, you can gaze down the valley at the city. Lamb’s Rock, further along the road, is a pretty spot for a picnic with unparalleled views of tea and coffee plantations.

Catherine Falls
A short drive from town, these falls cascade down the Nilgiri Mountains and are a beautiful sight during the rains. The last 3km must be traversed on foot and it is a picturesque sight as the trail meanders through pretty tea estates.

Droog Fort
Droog Fort once served as an outpost of the king of Mysore, and today is a popular picnic spot reached at the end of an exhilarating trek. All that now remains of the fort is a watchtower, but the sweeping views and the possibility of glorious bird sightings makes it a must-visit.
Activities To Do

Surround yourself with colour
Set in Upper Coonoor, the twelve-hectare Sims Park botanical garden is a mystical area with plant species from across the continent. These species include magnolias, ferns, roses and camellia. Walk among terraced gardens that burst with colours and perfume the air when the flowerbeds are in bloom.
