Located in the heart of Rajasthan, Ajmer has long been a stop for travellers searching for solace in its many wonderful sites of worship. This city envelopes the banks of the Ana Sagar Lake, is hugged by the mighty peaks of the Aravallis, and is also the ideal gateway to the holy town of Pushkar.
About Ajmer

Sight Seeing

Ajmer Sharif
This beautiful, golden-topped shrine of the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti was built by Emperor Humayun, and added to by several Mughal rulers that followed. Indeed, even Emperor Akbar made an annual trip to gain blessings here!

Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra
Built in 1153 AD, the beautiful, arched screen, and soaring domes and pillars make this a must-visit in Ajmer. The legends that surround these spectacular ruins are many. While some claim that the mosque took only two and a half days to be built, others believe that it was actually named after a festival that lasted for the same period.

Nareli Jain Temple
The newer of the two main Jain temples in Ajmer, the sprawling Nareli Jain Temple complex lies a few kilometres outside the city. Designed in a modern style, it is an oasis of calm, with plenty of green spaces to relax in.

Activities To Do

Conquer a hill
Challenge yourself with the steep 3km trek up to Taragarh Fort, built by Ajaipal Chauhan, the founder of Ajmer. Once a mighty citadel that saw much fighting through the Mughal period, this spot now offers spectacular views over the town and Ana Sagar Lake. You can also take a car to the fort.

Have a quiet afternoon
Gain some respite from Ajmer’s often searing heat by the banks of the placid Ana Sagar lake. Two beautiful gardens, Subhash Bagh and Daulat Bagh, are nestled on the banks of this manmade lake. The lovely white pavilions within these gardens offer views over the lake with the Aravallis beyond it.

Take a day trip
Absorb the unique atmosphere and beautiful architecture of the holy town of Pushkar, close to Ajmer, renowned for its camel fair. Pushkar is said to be located around a lake that appeared at the site where Lord Brahma dropped a lotus, and is also home to one of the few temples dedicated to this God.
