Surat Castle
This 16th-century castle, Surat’s oldest structure, is set along the River Tapti. Built in the latter days of the Gujarat Sultanate, it has 12-metre-high battlements and walls three metres deep. Though it is now filled with government offices, the Eastern gateway in particular is impressive.

Chintamani-jain-temple
Dating back to the 15th century, the Chintamani Jain Temple looks simple from the outside, but cocoons stunning art within. Marvel at rare paintings of the Jain monk Acharya Hemachandra and the Solanki King Kumarpal, as well as other vegetable-dye paintings and the exquisite wooden carvings.

Sardar Vallabhai Patel Museum

Established in 1889, this museum, also called the Sardar Sangrahalaya, showcases Surat’s rich history. Its collection spans twelve thousand artefacts including 18th century furniture, fabric and porcelain from around the world, and lovely maps.
