Belur and Halebidu
The nearby towns of Belur and Halebidu were once the seat of the Hoysala empire. The temples here are considered to be among the best examples of Hoysala architecture, with the distinctive tower over the Vimana or sanctum, and the exquisitely detailed sculptures that are typical of the era.

Veeranarayana Temple
The biggest attraction of the Veeranarayana Temple is the stunning idol of Lord Krishna it houses, which is believed to be the most beautiful rendition of his avatar. The temple is located in Belavady, 30km from Chikmagalur, and is built in the Hoysala style of architecture.

Hebbe Falls
The famous Hebbe Falls are breathtaking, as they gush down from a height of 168 metres through lush foliage. Be prepared to trek, through picturesque settings, to reach the falls. For the more adventurous, a longer, more challenging route also waits to be explored.

Start early and drive to the base of Mullayanagiri – the highest mountain in the state, from where you can climb the stone steps that snake their way to the peak. This fairly steep trek, is especially known for the breathraking views it offers.
