Smoky Single Malts
Single malts from Scotland present a spectrum of flavours ranging from floral to spicy. And one of the most unusual flavours is smoky! Though a smoky flavour is discerned –and enjoyed-in many single malts, it is most characteristic of single-malts produced on the island of Islay that is blessed with abundant peat.
Islay enjoys a reputation of producing wonderful whiskies with a characteristic smoky peaty flavour. This is because during the production process the green malt is laid out on a perforated floor in the kiln and then a peat fire is lit to give the malt a peaty smoky aroma.
