About New Delhi

India’s capital city, New Delhi, has transformed in the last five decades from a relatively sleepy city to a bustling metropolis graced with wide roads, stately monuments and a vibrant nightlife! Today, high-rise buildings stand cheek by jowl with over 1000 monuments in and around the city, and the city’s famous green spaces have dwindled to a mere handful. New Delhi remains the hub of major political and commercial activities giving the city a cosmopolitan air. It also remains a major link to all other northern and southern cities. Nowadays the line of distinction between Old and New Delhi has begun to blur and north, south, east and west Delhi are more prevalent terms of demarcation.

Food

Being a melting pot of various cultures, food-lovers in Delhi can take their pick form a wide variety of local and international cuisines. Kababs, roti (Indian bread) and biryani, however are the order of the day. For gourmets, Delhi is synonymous with Moghlai and Frontier cuisines. Karachi Halwa is the most popular sweetmeat available in the city.


Culture

Delhi exhibits a unique cultural mix that is a blend of western and Indian influences. Tourists will not find it difficult to communicate here, as most people on the street understand English and many speak the language too! Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu are most commonly spoken Indian languages.
