About Coonoor
Coonoor is a hill station in the Nilgiris , which is blessed with milder climate than the Queen of Hills, Udhagamandalam alias Ooty. It stands on a lower ridge of the main plateau at an altitude of 1839 meters. There are many picnic spots surrounding the town.

Location & Attractions
Sim's
Park The Park
is situated in a deep ravine on the northern side of
Coonoor Railway Station at an elevation of 1768 to 1798
mts. The park, covering 12 hectares, can be divided into
eight major sections. The natural shola with winding
footpaths all over the higher slopes of the park is the
most distinctive and picturesque feature of this park.
This apart, a number of individual tree specimens
planted in a scattered fashion all over the place, lend
a special charm to the park, especially when they bloom
in different seasons throughout the year.
Lamb's
rock This is an extremely picturesque picnic spot
around 5.5 Km from upper Coonoor. A sheer precipice of
jogged rock drops down several hundred feet into a
luxuriant jungle in the valley below. The spot offers
views of the great Hulikal ravine, the Hulikal spur, and
the Mountain Railway. A cluster of houses in the
distance marks the town in the plains. The Lamb's Rock
is named after Captain Lamb who made a narrow path to
this spot
Pasteur Institute This institute,
located opposite the Sim's Park, was established in
1907. The institute conducts research on Rabies and
gives effective treatment. One of the most important
projects of this Institute is the manufacture of Polio
Vaccine.
Pomological Station This is one of the
three experimental fruit gardens in the Nilgiris
maintained by the Horticultural Department. The other
two are Burliar and Kallar on the Coonoor - Mettupalayam
Road. Apples, Plums, Peaches, Persimmons Lemons,
Apricots and Pomegranates are grown here for the purpose
of research. Surplus fruits and fruit based jams are
sold to the public.
Laws
Falls The Place is a beautiful picnic spot, situated
at Coonoor-Mettupalayam Road at the distance of 7 Km
from Coonoor. The height of the falls is about 180 feet.
There are vast stretches of undisturbed sholas and it is
a paradise for nature lovers.
The Droog This
beautiful picnic spot is located 15 km from Coonoor and
is situated at a height of 6000 feet. Once Tipu Sultan’s
outpost, the Droog is approachable only by a 3 km long
trekking path.
Dolphin's Nose This view point
located 10 Kms from the town, is a unique rock of
tremendous proportions, which looks like a dolphin's
nose.

Festivals
Flower and Fruit Shows are a part of the Summer Festival. The Tea and Tourism Festival is held in winter.
